The executive committee of Doha Centre for Media Freedom has been restructured, more than a year after its head was sacked.
A statement posted on the centre's official website said that the Minister of Culture, Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, has been appointed its new chairman.
The other members of the committee include Abdulrahman Nasser Al-Obaidan, Maryam Al-Khater and Saleh Al-Shawi.
Abdulrahman Nasser Al-Obaidan has also been appointed as the acting director of the centre, the statement said.
The announcement comes a year after Jan Keulen, director of the non-profit organisation which works for press freedom in the Gulf State, was reportedly sacked.
Keulen had replaced Robert Ménard in 2009, who was also sacked just a year into his post as the first director of the organisation.
Earlier on Monday, it was reported that Qatar dropped two places to 115th out of 180 in this year’s The 2015 World Press Freedom Index – attributable to the recent introduction of the state’s cybercrime law.
