It’s been an exciting year for Qatari stocks, especially given the country’s inclusion into MSCI’s emerging markets index for the first time in April. The combined market cap of the top 30 companies on the index is $187 billion.
Roughly a third of that sum is from just two companies — Qatar National Bank and Industries Qatar. The market cap of these companies has grown by almost 35 percent since August last year. The largest sector represented is finance, with 11 companies. All data is correct as of August 15.
While the outlook for the Qatari economy is stable, the outlook for the average Qatari business leader is anything but. Ten of these companies saw a change in leadership in the past year. Even more incredible is the fact that three firms saw two MANAGEMENT changes — although two of these were to reappoint leaders who had previously left the company.
Regardless of that latter statistic, if you are planning on doing business in Doha, the list will give you a strong idea of Qatar’s biggest corporate movers and shakers.
