Omanis buying any of the new iPhone 6 phones will have to pay double what it costs in UAE, according to traders in the country.
Traders have said the new Apple iPhone 6 (16GB) will cost $1,404 (OMR540), compared to the $707 (AED2,599) customers will pay in the UAE.
“The price list we have got from dealers in Dubai shows that the iPhone 6 16GB version will cost OMR540 and iPhone 6 Plus 16GB version will cost OMR680," a sales representative at Smart Zone told Times of Oman.
"These are the initial prices sent by dealers in Dubai. Now, we have to get the Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) permission for sale. Most probably, the new iPhones will be available by the last week of this month," the sales representative added.
Despite the high prices, the trader anticipated strong demand for the new iPhones.
"Even the iPhone 5s had a high price range. The price of the starting model was nearly OMR500 when it was launched. But that never deters Apple's ardent fans. Here too, Omanis are not bothered about the price. Some want it at any cost," said the trader.
In the US, customers who sign up for a two-year contract can buy the iPhone 6 16GB for $199 and $299 for the iPhone 6 Plus.
In the UAE, prices for the new phone start at AED2,599 for the iPhone 6 (16GB), rising to AED2,999 ($816) for the iPhone 6 Plus (16GB).
