Agreements are part of BP Oman’s edba projects
MUSCAT — Injaz Oman signed agreements with three partners, as part of BP Oman’s ebda for educational projects (ebda education), that will benefit 3,000 Omani students, under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Dr Fahad bin al Julanda al Said, Assistant Secretary-General for Innovation and Development, The Research Council, here at the Council’s offices in Athaiba yesterday.
Showing their commitment to core CSR (corporate social responsibility) principles, yesterday’s agreements reflect, and are a part of, BP Oman’s continued social INVESTMENT towards in-country value.
In relation to this, Khalid al Kindi, BP Oman’s Deputy General Manager, said, “We are committed to develop the capabilities in Oman in different forms, as part of our strategy of In-County Values (ICV), with ebda as one of our initiatives towards developing Omani talent.
“With the help of Injaz Oman, we aim to connect over 3,000 young individuals with assistance and employment opportunities by the end of 2014.”
As noted, Injaz Oman, as the project manager, signed agreements with ASM Technologies, Youth Vision and Outward Bound Oman on behalf of ebda education — a part of ebda BP Oman’s Social INVESTMENT Programme that aims at contributing to and serving Oman’s In-Country Value through educational and entrepreneurial initiatives.
Shabib bin Mohammed al Maamari, Executive Director of Injaz Oman stated, “Since Injaz Oman’s inception, development has been one of our key priorities, as an organisation. With BP Oman’s investment, Injaz Oman will achieve exponential growth, as our commitments through these partnerships strive towards a shared unified goal.
The collaborative strategy that BP Oman has brought together through this investment will have a greater impact on society, as we will be able to achieve our aim of supporting 3,000 students through the integrated partnerships, while keeping Oman’s long-term INVESTMENTS in mind.”
In comments given to the Observer on the occasion, al Maamari noted, “We are part of a global organisation that had started back in 1919, while here in Oman we started nine years ago. We are a non-profit NGO and all the programmes provided are free of charge, targeting students aged five to twenty-five.”
He pointed out, “We concentrate on entrepreneurial readiness and FINANCIAL literacy and the reason why Injaz Oman and our parent organisation, the Aman Foundation, have been so successful is because of the belief in collaboration. Collaborative efforts between us and our partners are with ministries, NGO’s, private sector companies…”
Speaking about the day’s event, he said, “Today is a very unique day for us, because BP was able to bring many parties together to serve the community by providing a better future for the youth. We’ve been able to agree with our partners on a common theme, which is youth, and the overall target is around 3,000 who will benefit from all the programmes made available.”
Al Maamari said, it is the first time for them to sign these types of deals in Oman, “where the investment is huge and we see it as an opportunity for these organisations to build up their capacity and prove to a multinational like BP that they are well established NGO’s and well established companies that can take up big projects. Again, it’s a learning process for us to learn from our partners how they conduct their businesses and to better the provision of our services next year.”
Under ebda education, Injaz Oman will focus on delivering educational projects in entrepreneurship and leadership among youth, including providing vocational training, workshops in entrepreneurship skills, and engaging leadership skills to the youth. Injaz Oman previously also signed an agreement this month with Oman Road Safety Association as part of ebda education for the ‘Buckle Up!’ Campaign.
As an associate implementing partner with ebda education, Youth Vision will provide three educational projects, including teaching vocational skills, training for employment, leadership and problem solving, and entrepreneurial skills. Sultan bin Salim al Farei, Executive Director of Youth Vision, remarked, “For Youth Vision, the partnership with BP and Injaz Oman will help us achieve our mission to build a charismatic youth generation integrated through specialised programmes and distinct community partnerships.”
Also as part of ebda education, ASM Technologies will be training 40 local resources on digital media, specialising in virtual reality and augmented reality through SAS Virtual Reality (SAS VR) — a regional centre established to develop a virtual reality infrastructure. Fawzi bin Hamed al Harrasi, Executive Director of ASM Technologies, noted, “In SAS VR, the idea is to create an action oriented programme where trainees have to be involved in real projects.
“Often training programmes and courses in the MARKET do not offer such a dimension. This not only puts the trainees in a real project environment, inculcating the value of producing quality work and keeping to time, but in a controlled environment as well.
“I hope more organisations can follow BP Oman’s example so that a new and exciting digital media sector can be created. Injaz Oman, with its experience in programme management, is bringing a lot of value to this partnership.”
Outward Bound Oman (OBO) will provide four unique courses this year as part of the ebda education, which will be held in Oman’s deserts and mountains. Participating youth will learn leadership skills, explore challenges and find solutions. Mark Evans, General Manager of OBO, said, “We see Injaz as playing a leading role in supporting the government drive to develop the entrepreneurial spirit amongst young people in Oman. The support from BP Oman provides the ideal platform for Injaz and OBO to work together to develop this spirit, and to provide an unrivalled facility and a service to develop the next generation of leaders, in both civil society and the business world.”
