Muscat: In an event that is sure to delight the whole family, the Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) will hold A special musical treat, Family Concert 2014, which will introduce children and their parents to opera.
Combining music with informative explanations, the concert will teach the audience about the different songs and music that make up an opera. Irrespective of whether you are part of A family or not, it will be a good opportunity to learn more about this famous genre.
ROHM's Director General Christina Scheppelmann stated: "I think it's an INTERESTING and light way to be introduced to the elements of opera - arias, duets, concertati. It will explain what those elements are that make an opera and you can also enjoy the concert with vivid, beautiful examples."
The concert will feature opera soloists and the chorus and the orchestra from Italy's Teatro Verdi Trieste. Francesco Quattrocchi will conduct the concert which features baritones Carmelo Corrado Caruso, Christian Starinieri and Gabriele Ribis, tenor Luciano Ganci, and sopranos Isabelle Kabatu and Maria Cioppi.
The music will include famous opera pieces such as Rossini's Overture from William Tell, the quartet from Verdi's Rigoletto, and music from Madame Butterfly and La Traviata. Narration will be provided in both Arabic and English.
Text and music
Scheppelmann said this concert is very important because many people do not necessarily know the different types of songs that are included in an opera and how they are combined to tell the overall story. "In the process of having it explained, you learn something about the structure, how the text and music WORK together," she said.
The Family Concert 2014 will be performed for one night only on Sunday at 6pm. It is will last for 70 minutes without an intermission. Ticket prices are just OMR1 for children and OMR2 for adults.
