Thousands of people — including Mayor Don Iveson — attended the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo this weekend at Northlands.
The event kicked off on Friday and features several celebrity guests, including Alice Cooper, Kunal Nayyar (Big Bang Theory), Simon Helberg (Big Bang Theory) and Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal).
The Expo also included a costume contest for both children and adults, as well as a "geek speed dating" session on Saturday.
Brett Lewis was excited to be able to show off his handmade costume in front of people with similar interests.
"You get a lot of recognition, which is nice," Lewis said. "It feels good knowing you've put a lot of time and effort into the costumes, and being able to handcraft something and present it to a bunch of people who share the same likes that you have."
Lewis said he has been planning his costume for months.
"If I am passionate about something, I will just build it," he said.
This is the third year the Expo has been held in Edmonton and it has been growing in popularity every year.
Organizers said 15,000 people came to the event in the first year. This weekend, they expect 35,000 people to show up.
