Omani shooter Said Al Hashmi came up with a creditable performance to advance to the second stage of the qualifiers while the Sultanate's volleyball and hockey teams suffered defeats at the Asian Games on Tuesday.
In the men's 25m rapid fire pistol stage one qualification, Said Al Hasmi shot three identical and excellent rounds of 97, 97, 97.
His aggregate score of 291 helped the Omani marksman finish third in stage one qualification and make it to the stage two, which takes place on Wednesday.
In the beach volleyball, both Omani teams in action were handed defeats by Malaysia and Japan. The pair of Mazin Al Hasmi and Faisal Al Subhi went down 13-21, 19-21 to Rafi Nordin and Mohammed Mahad while the duo of Haitham Al Shereiqi and Ahmed Al Hosni were beaten 21-9, 21-18 by Japan's Yuya Ageba and Yoshiumi Hasegawa.
In swimming, Issa Al Adawi clocked four minutes and 26.11 seconds to finish fourth in Heat 1 of men's 400m freestyle. However, his effort was not enough to ensure his place in the next stage.

Meanwhile, the Oman hockey team suffered their second defeat in Pool B when they were drubbed 7-0 by India.
Earlier, Oman had lost to China 5-0 in their opening pool match. They next play Sri Lanka on Thursday.
Wednesday's proceedings will see Omani athletes in action in four disciplines. Haitham Al Shereiqi and Ahmed Al Hosni will continue their participation in the beach volleyball competition whey they take on South Korea's Daekyong Kim and Youngmin Cha.
The handball team, who made it to the second round after excellent victories over China and the UAE, take on Iran today while marksman Said Al Hashmi will be taking part in the second stage of the 25m rapid fire pistol men's qualifications.
There will also be four Omani sailors in action on Wednesday.
Ahmed Al Hassani will compete in two races of laser men's one person dinghy contest, Zakariya Sulaiman Al Wahabi will be in action in two races of optimist men's one person dinghy competition and Samiha Al Riyami will participate in two races of optimist women's one person dinghy contest.
Waleed Issa Al Kendi will be in action in RS:X men windsurfer opening series.
Oman cultural exhibition
Meanwhile, the Oman cultural exhibition was opened in Incheon on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Asian Games.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Mohammed bin Salim Al Harthy, Sultanate's Ambassador to South Korea, in the presence of Oman Olympic Committee chief Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair, General Secretary Taha bin Sulaiman Al Kishry and a number of other sports officials.
The exhibition is aimed at promoting the tourism sector in Oman.
